hike to fish (but not really) -- Hellroaring Creek

Over a number of days, late afternoon storms hammered the Lamar Valley area in Yellowstone NP. As a result, many rivers were running a little high, but more serious, they would getting cloudy if not fully dirty --- looking like Cafe au Lait.

Fish don't bite in cloudy or dirty water. The option, try smaller streams with less water from rain drainage.

So we chose to hike to Hellroaring Creek, a 2 mile hike in the Tower Fall area. The first mile is down to the Yellowstone River, then crossing it on a suspension bridge, and another 1 mile on open terrain to the Hellroaring.

Along the way, we met a couple coming out -- with fly rods in hand. They said that they got there real early and it was okay, but over a few hours, the river started to get cloudy ---  it was "blown-out". We decided to go in anyway, since it was to be a nice walk. Yup, the river was cloudy and we had a nice walk.

If you can't fish, may as well soak your feet!

  1. And so the adage that a bad day of fishing is still better than a day in the office gets another feather in its cap. Good to see yah!
