Hike to Fish --- Upper Basin Lake

We are in the "lowlands" of the Beartooths. We dropped from 9700' to 5500' at Red Lodge to avoid "bad" weather that was predicted. Well the bad weather did arrive, and it was very windy and pretty cold in Red Lodge --- we decided our choice to move was a good one, as it was likely in the 20's and could be snowing (for real) at 9700'.

A nice choice was to wait it out, which we did at Honey's, an espresso bar and "computer lounge" in Red Lodge. Then made a plan to do something -- a modest hike!  4 miles in and 2000" of elevation gain.

The results

a small waterfall along the way

Reflection in Lower Basin Lake

Arriving at Upper Basin Lake..  a beautiful lake sitting under a cirque

Alicia playing with "her technology" -- GPS

Nice location under a large cirque

The goal was to catch

Success!

A nice 10" brookie -- about normal

Out for a  few more -- "Alicia, we can leave after I catch 6! "

Okay, number 6, time to go!
